2026 MARKS TWO DECADES OF DANCE AT MAIN ST FUNK — ENROL NOW FOR OUR 20TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR!

NEWSLETTER – AUGUST 2025

Hey Dance Fam,

What an incredible start to Term 3 we’ve had! Can you believe we’re already more than halfway through? Before we know it, we’ll be on stage lapping up the applause from our adoring fans.

A warm welcome to our many new families who have joined us this term, and of course, a big thank you to our wonderful, loyal students and guardians who continue to be part of the MSF family.

2025 CONCERT THEME – ANIMAL KINGDOM 🦁🐯

Every year, our MSF concert takes on a unique theme to tie our performances together. Past themes have included The Circus, The Library, The Museum, and The Calendar Year.

This year, we’re venturing into the Animal Kingdom! Each dance will represent a different animal, and classes are now busy preparing two routines that will all come together in our end-of-year spectacular. From graceful jellyfish to cheeky monkeys, fierce tigers to elegant swans—it’s going to be WILD!

WHY THE CONCERT MATTERS 🎭

The end-of-year concert is the highlight of the MSF calendar—a professional production and the moment our dancers have been working towards all year. It’s more than a performance: it’s a celebration of hard work, growth, and team spirit.

Dancing is a team effort, and every child plays an important role. If your dancer cannot participate due to an unavoidable commitment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.

COMPULSORY THEATRE REHEARSAL 🎟️

The only compulsory event of the year is our theatre rehearsal, and the date is given well in advance to help families plan.

Why it’s essential:

  • It’s the only chance to rehearse on stage before the concert.
  • Performing in a professional theatre can feel overwhelming—this rehearsal ensures dancers feel confident and safe on concert day.
  • Theatre hire costs thousands per day; this privilege is provided to MSF students at no extra charge.

⚠️ Please note: Students who do not attend this rehearsal will not be able to perform in the concert.

Rehearsal Date:
📅 Sunday, November 16th – Time TBA
📍 Loyola College, Watsonia
(Petites do not perform.)

END-OF-YEAR CONCERTS ✨

All classes from Mini through to Senior will perform in the concert. Please carefully note your dancer’s concert date:

  • Concert 1 – Mon/Tue Classes + Teens/Seniors
    🗓 Saturday, November 29th – 3:30pm (Arrival 2:30pm)
  • Concert 2 – Fri/Sat Classes + Teens/Seniors
    🗓 Sunday, November 30th – 11:00am (Arrival 10:00am)
  • Concert 3 – Wed/Thu Classes + Teens/Seniors
    🗓 Sunday, November 30th – 3:30pm (Arrival 2:30pm)

CONCERT ENROLMENTS NOW CLOSED 🚫

Word of mouth has always been a huge part of our growth as a community and we thank you for spreading the word about our dance school.

Please note that our 2025 enrolments for all concert classes (Minis–Seniors) are now closed. This ensures every dancer has enough time to prepare and feel confident for the concert. It also allows us to secure costumes and keep choreography on track without disruption.

If you have friends who are keen to dance with MSF, we’d still love to hear from them! Encourage them to get in touch so we can keep them in the loop about all things 2026—including our new timetable, enrolment dates, and our annual Open Day.

OUR GROWING PRESCHOOL DANCE PROGRAM – PETITES 🌸

While our concert enrolments are closed, our Petites Dance Program for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 2.5–4) takes enrolments all year round.

Petites don’t have the pressure of big events or concerts. Instead, they enjoy a magical introduction to dance through:
✨ Exclusive music written just for MSF Petites
✨ A curriculum designed by MSF directors specifically for young learners
✨ A nurturing environment that builds confidence, coordination, and creativity
✨ Fun, structured classes where parents see their little ones blossom week after week

We’re excited to announce that we now have a brand-new weekday timetable open for enrolments! If you know a little dancer who’s ready to take their first steps into the dance world, our Petites program is the perfect place to start.

SPECIAL GROWN-UP WEEK – HONOURING FATHER’S DAY 💐

To celebrate Father’s Day, we invite our MSF kids to bring one special grown-up to join them for the final 10 minutes of class during Special Grown-Up Week.

This is a wonderful opportunity to:
✨ Share in the joy of your child’s dance journey
✨ Witness their progress and growing confidence
✨ Sneak a peek at the beginnings of their concert choreography

📅 Dates: Monday, September 1 – Saturday, September 6
👩‍👧‍👦 Bring along Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, or any other special grown-up your dancer would love to share their class with!
A friendly reminder: no photos or videos

COSTUMES 👗✨

This term, we will begin costume try-ons and allocations in class. You will receive advance notice so your dancer can come prepared with the right undergarments for quick changing.

A reminder: costumes are not clothes—they are art. Their purpose is to tell a story on stage. This means they may not always be what you would ordinarily choose to wear, or your perfect size, colour, or style. Trust that your teachers are experienced in costuming spectacular shows and know what looks best under stage lights.

We also costume on a budget—carefully sourcing affordable but effective costumes so that families are not faced with a big bill at the end of each year.

PHOTO SHOOT 📸

Each year we hold a professional photo shoot in costume, right here in our studio. This is a wonderful opportunity to capture memories and celebrate our dancers’ hard work.

We are still finalising the date for this year’s photo shoot, but stay tuned—it will be announced soon!

KRISTIE UPDATE 💕

Thank you to everyone in our beautiful community who has checked in on Kristie. While we haven’t been able to respond to every single message, please know that we have read and deeply appreciated all of your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Kristie is doing extremely well—she’s back to working, teaching, and dancing, and she’s handling chemo like an absolute champ. Your support means the world.

HOUSEKEEPING 🏡

To help keep MSF running smoothly and ensure every student has the best experience, please take note of these important reminders:

🚻 Toilet Etiquette – Please encourage dancers to use the toilet before class begins to avoid disruptions.

  • Always leave the toilet clean and tidy for the next person—flush, check that the seat and bowl are clean, and use only toilet paper.
  • Please do not flush wipes, paper towels, or any items other than toilet paper, as this causes blockages.
  • Parents, please supervise young children in the toilets. Parents of older dancers, please chat to them about appropriate toilet etiquette.
  • Remember: our toilet is not a “public toilet.” It’s a shared facility in our dancing home—let’s treat it with respect.

🏠 Foyer Manners – Our foyer is a shared space. For everyone’s comfort and safety, please no running, cartwheels, squealing, or yelling.

⏰ Attendance & Punctuality – Every dancer’s presence makes a difference. Regular, on-time attendance ensures classes progress smoothly and helps build teamwork. Don’t forget: students who show up consistently could be recognised in our Team Spirit Shoutout and join the 100% Club at the end of the term!

👕 Uniform Reminder – All students must be wearing the correct uniform to every class. It not only looks professional, but it also helps teachers correct alignment, keeps dancers safe and ensures we all look and feel like a team.

💧 Water Bottles – Please make sure every dancer brings a clearly labelled water bottle to class. Staying hydrated is especially important as we head into concert season. Leaving class to grab a glass of water interrupts the flow of class and more often than not results in a spill in the studio, which can be very disruptive.

🧡 LET’S THRIVE IN 2025!

Term 3 is proving to be a WILD ride—our dancers are working hard, our families are showing up with amazing energy, and the buzz around the studio is electric. Thank you for contributing to the special community we’re building together at Main St Funk. We can’t wait to see all this dedication shine on stage later this year.
