A very special year at Main St Funk

Main St Funk is a performance-based dance school, and every year we work towards the next moment our dancers get to step on stage. Concerts are a central part of the MSF experience — they celebrate growth, teamwork, confidence and the joy of dancing together.

Our annual concert themes

Each year, our end-of-year concert is brought to life through a unifying theme that ties all performances together. Our dancers love immersing themselves in characters, stories and worlds — it makes the performance experience even more exciting and meaningful.

🎉 MSF’s Roaring Twenties 🎉

To celebrate Main St Funk’s 20th Birthday, we’re acting our age and throwing one giant party!

Our 2026 end-of-year concert theme is MSF’s Roaring Twenties — a spectacular celebration spanning two iconic eras: the 1920s and the 2020s. Through music, television, movies, iconic characters, influential people and unforgettable moments in history, we’ll bring both centuries to life on stage.

Every class will learn two routines throughout the year:

From flappers to jazz clubs, silent films to streaming services, vintage glamour to viral trends, every dance is one big celebration of the past and present. It’s the perfect way to celebrate 20 incredible years of Main St Funk.

Why concerts matter

Participating in concerts is an incredibly valuable part of a dancer’s journey. Performing on stage supports:

Confidence and self-belief
Teamwork and commitment
Memory, focus and resilience
Pride in working towards a shared goal

Dancing is a team effort, and each dancer plays an important role in bringing a production together. When a dancer is unable to participate, it can impact formations, spacing and the overall experience for the group. For this reason, attendance at key performance events is extremely important.

If you are aware of a prior significant commitment that may affect attendance, it is expected etiquette to notify MSF teachers as early as possible, so classes can be prepared and choreographed accordingly.

All major performance dates are set and shared at the end of the year prior, giving families the best opportunity to plan ahead and prioritise these important moments.

Is there an additional performance fee or costume hire fee?

No. At Main St Funk, our all-inclusive term fees cover costume hire, all performances and professional digital footage of our concerts.

The only additional costs families may choose to incur are:

Concert tickets for family and friends to attend the performances.
Professional photos, should you wish to purchase them.
The required “base” to wear with costumes. While Main St Funk provides all costumes, parents/carers are responsible for supplying items such as dance shoes, stockings, undergarments and any other base items specified for their child’s class.

End-of-Year Concerts – 2026

Our end-of-year concerts take place in a professional theatre environment, complete with state-of-the-art lighting, sound and staging. It is the highlight of the MSF calendar and the moment dancers have been working towards all year.

👉 All classes, excluding Petites, perform in one concert only. Teens & Seniors perform in all three concerts.

Compulsory Theatre Rehearsals

📍 Loyola College, Watsonia

The theatre rehearsal is the only compulsory event of the year and is essential for a safe and confident concert experience.

Why rehearsals matter:

It is the only opportunity to rehearse on stage prior to the concert.
Dancers learn spacing, entrances, exits and stage awareness.
It helps reduce nerves and build confidence.
Theatre hire is a significant cost, provided to MSF families at no extra charge.

⚠️ Students who do not attend the compulsory rehearsal will not be able to perform in the concert.

No Parents Backstage

At Main St Funk, we build confidence, independence and teamwork by not having parents/carers or backstage helpers on concert days.

Our dancers are supervised and cared for by the MSF teachers, staff and Senior Dancers from the moment they arrive until they are collected after the performance. Having only official MSF team members backstage ensures everyone working with our students holds the appropriate Working With Children Checks and First Aid qualifications.

It is also incredibly important to us that every dancer has their biggest supporters sitting in the audience, cheering them on rather than missing those special moments from backstage.

Don’t worry—we spend months preparing both our dancers and their grown-ups for this exciting day. After 20 years of producing concerts, we’ve got it down to a fine art!

Our annual professional photoshoot captures each class in costume and is a special keepsake for families.

👉 Petites are welcome to participate in the photoshoot, even though they do not perform in concerts.

Mid-Year Dance Concert

📍 Enjoy Church, Epping North

🗓 Saturday 20 June 2026

In addition to our end-of-year production, we also hold an informal and intimate mid-year concert. This performance provides dancers with an extra opportunity to experience the stage in a relaxed and supportive environment.

We also love the opportunity to get out and about in the community and perform in relaxed and fun environments. We are regulars at the City of Whittlesea Community Festival and the St Mary of the Cross MacKillop School Fair!
